PSA SUMMER SCHOOL

Summer Program Expertise;

PSA has successfully operated a youth camp for international students since 2004. The camp is an extremely busy program, which combines intensive English study with myriad trips and language-learning activities.

Short summer sessions have also been a vital part of the PSA year-round regular intensive English program. We have successfully adapted curriculum and instruction to meet the particular needs and interests of summer participants.

Based on the success of the current academic year program with High school students, PSA is uniquely qualified to create a customized summer program for similar participants. We will draw upon the knowledge and understanding we have gained this year to create and deliver a dynamic summer program that students will value and enjoy.

Program Description:

PSA will develop and deliver a multi-level intensive two-week English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The program is limited to students grade 7 thru grade 11

Length of program:

Two weeks

Hours of instruction:

16 hours per week, Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Levels of Instruction:

Levels 3-5, according to the number of participants and needs of students from each group

Place of Instruction:

PSA school campus

Class size:

15 students maximum per level

Objectives:

  •  Students will develop and improve English skills in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Grammar
  •  Students will build vocabulary skills and knowledge of English idioms
  •  Students will learn about the culture and education system in U.S.
  •  Students will develop study skills to prepare for future academic work
  •  Students will learn key strategies for language learning, which will speed their progress
  •  Students will engage in activities and assignments that require interaction and communication with native English speakers
  •  Students’ proficiency will be evaluated at the beginning and end of the program.

Faculty and Staff:

All PSA instructors have experience in Teaching English to Speaker's of Other Languages (TESOL). Instructors have extensive teaching experience in addition to cross-cultural and/or overseas teaching/living experience. Instructors for this program will have experience teaching secondary level students. The PSA administrative staff strives to meet the highest standards of management and quality of service. The PSA Director will have primary responsibility for overseeing this program, while the Program Assistant will be the contact for questions or assistance with student visas, insurance or other student-related services.

Courses;

Students in this program will take eight courses:

  •  Listening/Speaking
  •  Grammar
  •  Reading/Writing
  •  Vocabulary Building
  •  Conversation Strategies
  •  Grammar Games
  •  American Culture and History
  •  Campus Exploration

There will be a total of 16 hours of weekly class instruction. Three to five levels of instruction will be delivered based on the results of students’ placement tests that will be given during the first week of the program.

Student Placement and Assessment:

Testing will be conducted at the beginning and at the end of the program to determine students’ language proficiency in speaking, listening, grammar, reading and writing. An official Certificate of Study will be awarded to each student at the end of program.

Summer School Details;

  •  In the Summer School Program, there will be 4 hours of language study daily equaling to a total of 32 hours.
  • Before we begin the program the students will be given a Placement Test, this is to test their English level. They will be divided into their level classes accordingly.
  • There will be trips to the well-known and historic cities of New York and Boston. Not only will students be able to see these famous cities but will also be able to practice their English during the activities.
  •  Students will be housed in a comfortable good settling. Roomed with four students sharing.
  •  During the Program the food will be prepared and served by PSA chef.

REGISTIRATION INFORMATION;

Group registration is accepted only. PSA does not accept individual applications. 1 to 7 ratio should be provided as chaperon/student ratio for each participating schools.

1. PSA Summer School fee includes;
a) Picking students up from the airport and dropping them off at the end of the Program
b) A two week ESL course offered by Putnam Science Academy
c) Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Shelter
d) Activities designed by Putnam Science Academy
e) Fees for the Trips to Boston, New York, and Museums
f) Fees for books and supplies
g) Road fees

2. Visa Procedure fees and travel expenses to and fro USA are the responsibility of students/parents

3. If there are any damages done to materials which belong to PSA properties, it is the responsibility of the Chaperone of the group to retrieve the damage fees from the students involved.

4. Parents must pay the full tuition on or before application deadline.

5. Students, who started the registration procedure but have a change of mind, will be charged a $1000 registration fee.

6. Students who don’t hand in their documents and tuition fees on time will not be allowed into the program.
